So We May Be Seeing A Very Short Life For What Steve Introduces August 7. If true, this looks like Steve may be able to claim an all Quad Core plus Oct Core on top Mac Pro line PLUS Quad Core iMacs at his annual SF MacWorld SteveNote January 9,2007 perhaps with Leopard on board as well. Wouldn't that be a Merry belated Christmas and a Happiest of New Years? :D :p  ;) :)

I wish people would stop posting these articles. Every time I read a new one talking about Merom and new MacBook Pros I end up soiling my pants. Frankly, my wife is starting to complain...

Just picked up a Atrix 4G and on my way checked out the iPhone 4 - it looks decidedly antique and bland in front of the competition - Apple waiting until September would mean they rely awful lot on people's stupidity to keep buying it for 8 more months!

That ain't gonna happen - we will see a dual core iPhone 5 by June shipping by July or something (followed by shortages and long waits.)!

I agree on you point about the iPhone starting to look "old' compared to these newer phones. However I don't think Apple cares and will wait until September now.

As for people saying that it's silly because those new phones have terrible battery, well unless the battery dies in the 5 mintures they are playing with the phone in the store I don't think the average consumer really will care. Sure they may complain about it after they get it but hey they won't do anything about it until that 2 year contract is up so it's still a sale for Android and a loss for Apple.

I guess I would be underwhelmed if I had mistaken WWDC for Macworld or something, and expected a bunch of major new product announcements.

I agree. Release Mac Pro and just enough of Leopard to keep us going until January. Besides whats the point in Apple showing its entire hand with a release window 7-9 months out?

I do like that they'll be updating Mail. Having templates will be handy for what I use the program for.

The 3 ghz Mac Pro is neck and neck with the G5 Quad in the Adobe benchmarks, sick considering the fact it's running under rosetta!!

Honestly, I don't mind waiting. The iPhone 4 is a BEAUTIFUL phone. Takes great pictures, fast, responsive, high-res screen etc etc. New apps are being released all the time and getting updated.

While I enjoy the 4 Apple is trying to make the iPhone 5 and iOS 5 amazing so that it'll be MORE than ready for prime time.

We have so much to look forward to: Lion, New MobileMe, Server Farm, iPhone 5, iOS 5

Lame. As if they aren't gettign enough money as it is.

They aren't. The entire music business revenues are down 40% since 2001. Sales are down hugely. I can tell you from representing these artists that all the money is down too.

Are you spending as much on music as you did years ago?

Great joke, thanks very much...in the same line as Tiger Computer Dealers, right?

We already have a Mac Pro line of products, we are also the owners of AppleLocks, and MacMice. The Tiger thing was silly.

The folks over at Anandtech have dropped engineering samples of the quad core cloverton into a Mac Pro - http://www.anandtech.com/mac/showdoc.aspx?i=2832&p=6

and it worked ... all eight cores were recognised.

The rest of the article was interesting too.

This willl probably be the update I purchase next year - if it makes it into the Mac Pro - thanks for the link.

I'd like something upgradeable, where I could replace/upgrade HDDs, optical drives, and most importantly the display - yet a PowerMac is overkill for my needs. It sure would be nice to see, but I doubt Apple will do it...

I doubt they'll do it too. For some reason this idea has come up over and over again during the last few weeks, and I'll continue to say what I've been saying - I don't see why apple would do that. It's a very appealing idea for a lot of MR folks because a lot of us are knowledgable users but not really professionals. But beyond that group, which is prevalent at MR but fairly rare in the real world, I don't see the appeal.

Also, think about what apple would be doing with such a machine - selling you a low cost, low margin mac that you could nonetheless upgrade with 3rd party components for years. Meaning that apple doesn't make a lot off you up front and doesn't get you coming back again for 5-ish years. Great for you, not so great for them. Whereas if they sell you a mac pro, they make a killing up front, so it's ok if you keep it for years, and if they sell you anything else you'll be back a lot sooner.

I guess I am lucky, but I haven't had problems through all the Macs I have bought. It may be because I haven't bought rev A of any product.

The eMac was 2nd gen. No problems.
The iBook was 2nd to last gen. No problems.
And the Intel Mac mini is just an internals change. We'll wait and see.

If my Intel mini conks out unexpectedly, I will give Apple one more chance, because they haven't worked with Intel hardware extensively like PPC hardware.

At the same time, there is a price to pay for lower prices. Would you be willing to pay premiums for quality? I'm glad Apples are cheaper, but not glad about the downturn in quality. I think I would pay a bit more for quality, myself.

We all have our crosses to bear. Ultimately it is up to the homosexual to sin or not

What does my post have to do with cinema excellence?

default: a preselected option adopted by a computer program or other mechanism when no alternative is specified by the user or programmer.
Unless influenced otherwise the brain develops heterosexually

Yeah, I know what default means. Your explanation has to be one of the most ridiculous I have encountered. Thanks for the laugh.

Though, i do have to wonder. What do you think "influcenes" the brain that may cause homosexuality?

I don't feel like reading through all the butt hurt comments and strangely political attacks in this thread so I'll just ask:

How do we know that Apple anonymizes data they do send?

The current Yonah MacBook is more powerful than any G5 - even dual core G5's. So why would you even make a fake joke about a weak mobile G5 coming? It's a joke that was only briefly funny two years ago.

It isn't the G5 part that's funny about it. The whole point of the joke is to make fun of the Rumor Article --> Wild Speculation --> Guessing the Specific Release Date cycle.

    Myspace was never cool.

Okay, okay, so they have done NAB (they've never done AES, though, that I'm certain). But still: They pulled out of everything in the last couple years. Why come back to NAB? Why not just do a small-scale announcement outside of NAB's timeframe so as to maximize press?

Also, nobody answered my initial question. Why the idle timer? There's no point!

Because presenting something ground breaking at NAB will give you huge positive push within the industry. Lets face the facts, FCP needs that huge positive push right here and right now. Apple is sliding the slippery slope at speed of light if they don't bring it with this new version of FCP.

Depends on which model. The AT&T/Rogers Galaxy S Captivate hardly ressembles the iPhone :

    http://www.droiddog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/att-samsung-captivate-photo-1.jpg

I'm also hard-pressed to see how the Nexus S comes even close :

    http://blog.eches.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/samsung-nexus-s.jpg

Let's not even go there with the Epic 4G :

    http://handies.phandroid.com/media/samsung-epic-4g-1288875927-196.jpg

Yet they are all included in the complaint...

Of course. Apple invented the phone, the computer, the GUI, the mouse, etc etc etc.

Apple needs to address this situation appropriately. As their products gain higher profile, as their customer base increases and they gain market share, it's only logical to think that there will be a greater need for support. If nothing else, it's simple math - more Macs out there = more problems! Esepcially with how well the Intel Macs have been selling, I think Apple would be foolish to think that what was good enough a few years ago is still good enough today in terms of support.

Apple must also realize the importance of first impressions. Now more than ever new switchers are coming on board to the Intel platform, and if they have problems right off the bat and poor customer service and support, that's going to leave a sour taste in their mouth, and perhaps they may just get fed up and switch back.

Apple is so good at so many things - let's hope they ensure this is the case for their Support services as well.

Well said, I think you hit the nail on the head.
